Mr. Franklin,
Thank you for your interest in modifying bus service in the northern section of Altadena .
After receiving your request, an Operations Planner and a Transit Operations Supervisor visited the area of Lake Avenue north of Altadena Drive . This portion of Lake Avenue is located in the County of Los Angeles , and as with many older and rural sections of the county, standard sidewalks, curbs and storm drains are non-existent. This is the case of north Lake Avenue . The deep ditches and lack of sidewalks, combined with an extremely steep grade do not permit standard bus service in the area. To meet the American Disabilities Act guidelines for new bus service and stops, bus stop zones with a landing pad and curb cuts would need to be established that will meet the acts requirements. The Transit Operations Supervisor also had great concern with the steep grade on both Lake Avenue and Loma Alta Drive .
Again, I am sorry your request can not be accommodated at this time. Should you have further questions, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
From: Hunt, Richard

Mr. Franklin, thank you for talking to me this afternoon. As we discussed, I can understand why bus service in your area is important. It also sounds like a good opportunity to evaluate our new hybrid bus technology.
Metro service in your area is evaluated and coordinated by the San Gabriel Valley Service Sector. Mr. Jack Gabig is the General Manager and Mr. Scott Page is the Service Development Manager for your area. I will forward your e-mail to the responsible individuals who will contact your directly.
I hope some of your concerns can be resolved. Thank you very much,
Richard

Dear Mr. Hunt,
I live
near the top of Lake Avenue
in Altadena . There is no bus service
above Altadena Drive
. I am a disable Air Force veteran. I cannot drive because of a
brain injury I received while on active duty.
Further, because of the
same injury, I have trouble walking. Please consider that elevation
change on Lake Avenue
and the fact that it does not have any sidewalks and then imagine the
difficulties navigating my person to the conveniences and services in the
business areas of Altadena . Also,
consider that I am by no means alone in my dilemma. There are many
people in my part of town who for whatever reason have no viable
transportation I have no doubt that a bus service here would pay for
itself in that people would use it to get to the county parks here, the
schools, and the national forest.
Please let me know what I can do to help you if necessary, to secure such public transportation in North Altadena as is appropriate.
Sincerely,
Brian
Franklin
